Blog Entry*it all starts on the planeNov 26, '06 12:04 PM
for everyone

one of my last memories at the airport was the jet aircraft doing a 3 point turn on the runway before taking off. Paro International Airport has one of the shortest runways in the world.

that is the view from the plane, with Paro Dzong (red roof) and the snow capped mountains in the background.

the actual tour (imho) starts on the plane.

sit on the correct side of the plane and you'll be rewarded with spectacular views. the pilots will usually point out the himalayan peaks one by one. jomahari, everest etc. flying into paro, it's on the left and on the right flying away from paro.

a window seat would be an excellent bonus. the plane flies in between mountains on the way in. quite an experience.

my parents had a tip from their yoga instructor at the uma. check in early and upgrade to the more comfortable business class seats for USD 50. it's worth the price.

{btw...an * in front of my blog titles will indicate that i'm writing about Bhutan}

Hee hee, no, 'night hunting' is how Bhutan men court their wives! At night, they go to their intended's house and seranade them, poetry, whatever it takes to get the girl to open the door. Once she lets him in, he will spend the night. Next day she will tell her father and she and the guy gets married! Of course if she's not interested, he can wait outside the whole night and the door remains shut!

u can go check into the uma paro,

http://www.uma.como.bz/paro/default.asp

they have a gym, swimming pool and a spa there. and more importantly (for me), great shower gels and soaps. I stashed my ration into the room safe at the end of everyday so that it would be replenished. lol.
