 | mlicy wrote on Jun 9, '07 So lucky...I wanna go...I haven't had my 3-mthly BKK fix *sob* |
 | haiz, me got no reason to be there le. - no like shopping, no work there, and most importantly no one is paying for my tix le, well unless someone is kind enough to then maybe i would start thinking of another break. ;p |
 | i'm definitely going to bangkok. just not so sure when :( i'll update if i can meet with u on those dates |
 | skt37 wrote on Jun 9, '07 .I haven't had my 3-mthly BKK fix *sob* wah madam, u got thai permanent residency there ah? lol.
anyway.. besides the shopping r there any must eats and must dos in BKK? |
 | skt37 wrote on Jun 9, '07 well unless someone is kind enough to then maybe i would start thinking of another break. ;p lol. i think u have very little chance of going to BKK actually. Ros hates BKK. besides... you have to think about your 5 wedding dinners right? :) |
 | skt37 wrote on Jun 9, '07 i'll update if i can meet with u on those dates ooh ok. sure! just let me know if you can make it there. :) |
 | mlicy wrote on Jun 9, '07 I wish!! Last year was a record, went there 5 times. This year went right after the bombings in Jan..but security situation is even more unstable now than before. My cousin and his family live in BKK. They say there isn't much going on in the streets, ie no signs of outright unrest. However, it does pay to be careful. Even super 'buay zhai xi' person like me who dared to go after the bombings would think twice about going now...do reconsider.
But if you really really must go, it's worth a trip to see the golden palace if you haven't been before, then take a water taxi down chao pyra river. There are lots of little kopi shops there, nice place to chill and watch the world go by. If you have more time, can take a trip out (just book a day trip from any hotel) to see the floating markets. It's quite the experience seeing a bustling market all on water, very very dirty longkang water. It's in a province (I think Patchaburi or something, can't recall the name now) about 3 hrs ride away from BKK. They have also have a floating mkt along the chao pyra in BKK and that is the original historical one, but locals will tell u that it's now just a shell of its former self and really meant just as a tourist attraction.
Shopping - go Sat AM (before 9 to reach is best) to Chatuchuk or JJ as the locals call it. Worth at least 1 visit to see the biggest flea market in the world. Lots of knick knacks and stuff, things your gf would love :P Go now because there are rumours that it will close down soon. If you have been however, skip it - I hardly think it's worth braving the super hot summer heat!!!
If your gf is going along, then a place she MUST visit would be Platinum in Pathunam. It's a new shopping centre with something like 3000 shops! Can easily go at 9am and emerge only at closing time (around 6 on Sundays, I think slightly later on Sat) Butyou would probably be bored senseless, so a word of caution! |
 | wow, myra, u realli love bangkok v much! erm, thanks for the info but.. we've booked the tix liao. ;p
u meant grand palace? been there twice alr... the architecture is v elaborate.. and yes the river cruise! i've been stuck in the boat for 1+ to 2 hrs before, till i almost puked. lol. not forgetting the murky waters... ;p
chatuchuk is nice but the heat is unbearable... er, tho it might have something to do wif the time i was there. ;p i prefer suan lum nite market but i heard it's gonna be closed down too.
oooh, i love platinum! been there twice during my last trip there in aug. love the lil bargains and cheap cheap stuff. can spend the whole day there but yes, think ben might be bored to death.. altho he offers his fashion advice... er, we wait and see... ;p haha...
